Managing Director

Vanessa Mathews is the founder and managing director of Mathews Family Law, and has the rare combination of social work qualifications and experience, combined with nearly 20 years’ experience as a lawyer and mediator; it makes her approach to resolving legal relationship issues both sensible and sensitive.

 

She is a fully accredited family law specialist, mediator, family dispute resolution practitioner and collaborative family lawyer with a commerce degree – adding a financially astute aspect to her practice.

 

Vanessa has extensive experience in complex issues that arise from relationship breakdown, and works in partnership with her clients, who regularly describe her as empathetic.

Kuppy Nambiar

Originally hailing from Adelaide where she studied and practised primarily in family law, Kuppy Nambiar is an accredited family law specialist who has practised in Melbourne since 2000.

 

She is also an instructor at Melbourne’s Leo Cussen Centre for Law, where she teaches the fundamentals of practising family law to lawyers, law students and legal support staff.

 

With experience in the legal areas of commercial, personal injury, conveyancing, wills and probate, estate litigation and even a smattering of criminal law, Kuppy is able to deal with the diverse range of issues that can arise during the legal conclusion of relationship breakdown. She deals daily with property settlements, arrangements for children, child support, divorce and injunctions.

 

Kuppy is known for her focus on the best possible outcome for clients – one that is the most cost effective and least stressful as possible.

 

Kuppy is an active member of the family law profession and has a strong commitment to community education. She is a member of:

Shalini Mendis

Shalini graduated from Monash University with degrees in Law and Arts (Psychology and Politics).  Since her admission to practice in 2012, she has practised exclusively in the area of family law and so has developed her skills and experience with respect to a wide range of issues including parenting, property and divorce matters.   

 

Shalini is committed to assisting her clients navigate the challenges of a family breakdown with professionalism, sensibility and empathy. 

 

Shalini is an active member of the family law profession and is currently a member of:

Kristian La Rocca

Legal Administrative Coordinator

Kristian graduated from La Trobe University with degrees in Arts and Law. Kristian was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria in February 2016

 

 Kristian joined Mathews Family Law in 2016.  In his role as Legal Administrative Coordinator Kristian oversees the day to day operation and management of the office.

 

He also manages the firm’s family dispute resolution and mediation practices and online divorce service. 

 Kristian is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
