Mathews Family Law is the only firm in Melbourne offering the full range of assisted dispute resolution options including:

  • Vanessa Mathews is an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner since the introduction of FDR in 2008. 
  • Vanessa is authorised to issue certificates pursuant to section 60I of the Family Law Act 1975
  • Vanessa has a very high success rate with the majority of family dispute resolution matters being resolved by consent and litigation avoided
  • Fixed fee

Vanessa conducts family dispute resolution ‘face to face’ and using web conferencing technology for those who are unable to attend in person or for whom this would be inappropriate.

  • Vanessa Mathews is an accredited mediator approved by the Law Institute of Victoria to conduct mediations
  • Mediations are offered in the following areas:
    • Property and Financial Settlements
    • Maintenance
    • Child Support, Child Maintenance and Adult Child Maintenance

Vanessa conducts mediations’face to face’ and using web conferencing technology for those who are unable to attend in person or for whom this would be inappropriate.
Vanessa is also retained by Access Resolve to conduct mediations on behalf of the Federal Circuit Court throughout regional Victoria.

  • Vanessa Mathews is a member of the Victorian Association of Collaborative Practitioners
  • Collaborative Practice is a method of dispute resolution whereby the parties and their lawyers agree to attempt to resolve their dispute without resort to litigation and that if either of the parties decides to litigate their lawyers will no longer act for them
  • Negotiations are based on the parties ‘interests’ and ‘needs’
  • The parties’ lawyers continue to provide legal advice
  • Other professionals such as counsellors and financial advisors may be involved in the collaborative process

  • Unbundling breaks up the family lawyer’s role into a number of agreed limited legal services
  • Unbundling empowers the client to select only those legal services that they require
  • Unbundling can limit the lawyer’s involvement to a single issue, court or mediation process including:
    • Advice only
    • Research only
    • Drafting letters or court documents
    • Reviewing client prepared letters and court documents
    • Negotiation coaching in preparation for mediation or settlement meeting
    • Negotiating on behalf of the client
    • Attendance at mediation or court appearance on behalf of the client\
    • Drafting settlement agreements
    • Providing independent legal advice for financial agreements
  • Supported by a written ‘unbundled limited scope engagement agreement’ (costs agreement)
